ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This piece was made with acrylic and varnish on canvas. Sticking to my abstract roots, the painting involves gestural movements and is made up of layer upon layer of paint. I finished the work with a layer of varnish to preserve the material qualities, adding a glossy depth to the surface. This piece was the first work I made after I moved to London 6 years ago. I was inspired by the Autumn colours around me at that time and wanted to reflect these deep rich shades within the painting.

My paintings are reactionary explorations of my surroundings. Over the years my work has embodied a playful, expressive, emotive aesthetic, inspired by the dynamic light and nature of my environments. The abstract work subconsciously incorporates rich, deep shades and tones on the surface. I rarely work with a desired aesthetic in mind, layering and applying paint in a spontaneous way; I leave the viewer to decide what the underlying feeling of the imagery means to them. My practice has always aimed to highlight the importance of retaining painting as an emotive, powerful form of communication in an ever changing technology-obsessed society.
