About The Artwork

Oil and liquid gold leaf on canvas. The title is from Ariel's song in "The Tempest" by W. Shakespeare, Act 1, sc.2. Ariel enters the scene like a water nymph He tells Ferdinand of the drowning of his father through images that convey the idea of a metamorphosis, the idea of death and hence, through a change, rebirth: "Those are pearls that were his eyes"
