Depicted is a colonial figure standing on Grass Point at Adventure Bay in Bruny Island. He is absurdly dressed, swim wear and floatation devices on over his clothes. Perhaps the first indication of his naivety in the situation. Accompanying the man is a road sign locating the camp ground, it reads 'Captain Cook's Holiday Park'. A huge oversight when considering indigenous history, particularly in Tasmania. In March, 1773 Captain Furneaux was separated from Captain Cook’s Resolution due to heavy fog in the Southern Indian Ocean. He became the first European navigator to enter Adventure Bay, which he named after his ship. Furneaux named some of the places still known today. One of which is, Quiet Corner, the source of wood supply for Furneaux and Captain Cook when he visited there in 1777.
