Art Description

Painting: Acrylic on Canvas.

Genius, the second painting in the 'Better Than Life' series, a social commentary inspired by the observation of modern living. The addiction to digital devices creating a filtered reality.
Genius takes a surreal and sinister view, the Scientist presenting the girl with her own death mask, an induction into her digital life. The flower in her hair and on the mask bare significance to her inevitable fate.
Genius went on to become the album art for Dutch metal band, Trigger the Madness.

This project devolved accidentally after the first painting in early 2017. Painted in black and white acrylic on raw linen, this has since become a favourite and has continued into later works.

Building the stretchers and stretching the linen is an important part of the creative process, to ensure quality of materials and to have created the work from scratch.
