Ghost Lakes Painting

Engraved wax on wood. Black and white. Minimal and graphic. Squiggly spectral symbols. An expression of craft, design, imperfection, geometric abstraction, and symbology. This is a hand-engraved composition of perfectly, imperfect repeated black lines that reveal an abstract language. The color palette is a creamy white with neutral undertones. "Part of an ongoing and meditative exploration of what it means to me to be an artist producing totally analog work in a digitally saturated world, and explicitly choosing to produce work by hand instead of using the electronic machine." The painting surface is finished in a layer of encaustic wax. Encaustic art involves fusing heated beeswax and damar resin on the surface of the substrate. The results are a soft, barely opaque, molten surface full of nuance and character that catches the light. ⁣Care for an encaustic painting as you would any fine art painting.
