About The Artwork
When I was painting this, I was thinking about how we have to give up certain freedoms and some of our personal power in order to be part of a society - in order to be governed (there is some text referring to this theme in the painting). I think the large white figure - the giant - is in some way a figure of authority, and intended to be somewhat sinister, or unreadable. The role of the owl here is less clear to me - it is apparently under the control of the giant, but it seems to have other things going on in its mind. Created in 2015
