About The Artwork

Part of a series of paintings featuring hearts as central figures. These explore the variety of experience and emotions associated with the human experience and living. This one implies the ability to see into oneself and others as life unfolds. I work using aspects of several art movements to compose my works. I like contrast in all things and use it in my design and approach to painting. I use this to capture a sense of dynamics and movement.

I was born in Reno, Nevada in 1950. We lived in Richland, Washington from 1951 to 1958, when we moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico. I graduated from High School there and left to attend university in Utah, where I now reside. I grew up listening to and playing music, exploring the world outside and learning gardening and cooking. I was interested in sports, hiking, fishing and other activities that most kids my age liked. My dad worked as a scientist but he also loved to build furniture. The entire community was made up of scientists and all of the children grew up studying science in school. I naturally developed a life long love for the sciences along with an aptitude for craftsmanship. I seek to make works that reflect my interests and upbringing through expression of color, line and form. Experiences, memories and the nature of belief interest me and often find their way into the work. I am fascinated with the myriad of fleeting moments we glimpse as we live our lives. Things passing by or sensed, just out of sight, all to be later recalled as we move along the paths of our lives. A sky changing. A landscape moving through inevitable cycles and changes. These are things I notice and watch. Always a focus of my attention and work. Capturing the nature of movement. The universal movement of Nature.
