About The Artwork

I paint my world, my pride, my children. Though ruminating and representing their lives, I paint to understand the world, and my role within it. How to raise happy, successful, team playing kids. I paint to understand what will bring happiness and what is success. We play polo because we live with horses. And it is the most fun game in the world. And they might be good at it because they live with horses. But it is also laced with wealth and privilege, and why do we also court that? I decided to decorate it in lace. To pretty up the scream. They could be playing soccer or any team sport. Girls are supposed to be pretty, to be polite, to be positive. But here in the heat of the moment, she was fierce. She was forthright. She was determined and worked with her girlfriend to win. And I wanted to celebrate that.

Amy Bernays lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Born in London, she graduated with a BA(honors) in Fine Art from Central St Martins College in 2001. Her paintings are landscapes of personal interaction; poems to the love of line. Working with non-linguistic communication such gesture, body language, lingering looks and gossip. Her work is anthropological and personal, ponderings on the great themes of life, love and leisure. AKA Amelia Bernays Pitti (what systemic sexism?)
