ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I am influenced by nature and my life story, how many gold hours have I witnessed and each one so unique, from the Atlas Mountains to the long lines of Manhattan. Colour is so important to me as it is direct representation of my mood and emotions that day or night when I start to paint. Also, unique colour combinations are what continue to drive my intrigue.

I am Jade Robertson, British/American citizen living in France. Born 1976, Chester, UK. I am a full time contemporary artist. My Paintings are just at the intersection of abstraction and landscape. I am influenced by the works of Caravaggio, Turner and Cai-Que-Qiang. I am interested in negative space, depth and perspective that in many ways look and feel like the familiar world around us but are also ambiguous, general and abstracted. In my world, in my head and on paper I want visual plains and geometric shapes to intersect, overlap, pile up and create a sense of visual distance and depth that resonates with the viewer. My work is my visual voice of feelings and emotion and my deep connection to nature. I hope my paintings take you somewhere, on a journey of intrigue and magic, mystery and a desire to keep questioning and looking further. I currently live and work in Paris. My collectors are scattered all over the world with work in southern Italy, New York and an industrial office in South America. Recent collaborations include “Café du Cyclist”, road and off road shoe campaign, Vivant Organic Wines, Maps Project, Commercial work for banks and educational buildings in South Carolina, USA I mostly work on the floor so as to “dive into” my paintings. I use a variety of materials, mops heads, squeegees, spray bottles, my hands etc. I tend to work on four or five paintings at one time, so as to paint very instinctively. I can do a painting in a day or it can take months to feel right.
