Art Description

Painting: C-type, Acrylic, Spray Paint on Wood, Paper.

Kintsugi (or Kintsukuroi) is a traditional Japanese method for repairing broken, high-quality ceramics.

The concept is to transmute the negativity of repair into the creation of an even more extraordinary and beautiful object than it was before breaking.

The cracks are repaired and filled with gold. The piece becomes even more beautiful for having been broken, changed and made more unique.

This painting is in the ongoing Kintsugi series.

There is a destroyed acrylic and spray paint on C-print photograph adhered with archival gel medium onto wooden pressboard panel. The cracks and gaps between the ripped panels of the original painting have been filled in with acrylic medium containing dark Aztec gold pigment, in an updated version of the traditional Japanese Kintsugi technique.

This painting comes framed with a dark blue window mat, in an unglazed wooden frame.
