About The Artwork

This 14" x 11" floral still life oil painting captures the brilliant artistry in an over-flowing bouquet of vibrant pink peonies. Engaging shapes and a bright palette of colors are used to creatively express a feeling of fullness and romance pouring out from the bouquet. A beautiful use of line adds a strong design influence to the artwork. Engaging simple shapes and geometric touches are incorporated into the composition adding a sense of texture and uniqueness. The palette of bright pinks, soft violet and blues are pared with exciting shades of green, touches of turquoise and creamy whites. The painting invites a feeling of lightness and joy. Inspiration for the painting came from my love for flowers and my excitement around receiving these peonies from a friend of mine when I stopped by to visit her. Her garden was just over-flowing with varied shades of pink peonies in various stages of bloom. It was amazing! I painted the artwork on a stretched canvas in oils. It comes wired to hang but may be framed. Note: the image of the painting in a frame is for reference only.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
