Green and Grey Too Painting

Inspired by the early American suburbs created by architect William Levitt known as Levittowns, I set out to make a work that was reflective of that same uniformity. Modeling the actual homes after people I know in my neighborhood of Spokane, WA, they each have their own individual personality while at the same time all being exactly the same. When I finished painting the work I noticed that the majority of the painting was either green or grey due to the American obsession with grass and cars, so I titled it "Green and Grey." A nod to the American suburb and its seemingly attractive but also monotonous and individualistic purpose in American culture.
