About The Artwork

Being a fan of The King of Cool, The Great Escape movie and a devout motorcyclist myself it was only natural I'd want to paint Cpt. Hilts at some stage. This is the 2nd in a series of 3 with the original "dude" on the Triumph Bonneville used in the movie which he then bought from the studio in 1971. McQueen then had the bike modified by Bud Ekins, his stunt double in The Great Escape, so he could race it in the desert. To say I have a hero worship going on with Steve McQueen would be an understatement. I've even painted the entrance to my bikers B&B in Killarney the same colors (blue/orange) as the Gulf Porsche McQueen drove in Le Mans (another favorite) and the same color scheme again for my motorcycle magazine and company logo. The 3rd painting in the series will hopefully be available from Oct 2017.

Over the years I've been a chef and an IT engineer working across Europe before returning to Ireland in 2016 and falling back into the family fold, namely photography and art. My father was a photographer, TV cameraman and a lighting director for Irish, British and Australian broadcasting companies while my cousins were/are classical landscape painters. My wife is also a classically trained artist, her professional training started when she was 12 in Kiev and has been rewarded twice with the President of Ukraine Award for Achievements in Arts. Art in some form has always been part of my life. About ten years ago I set up my first photography blog, initially it was to advertise my work. However, due to my methods of finding remote sceneries around Europe via motorcycle the blog morphed into a motorcycle travel magazine (www.RoadTrooper.com) and I became a travel writer and videographer (https://www.youtube.com/roadtroopermagazine) From this I've specialised in photographing "idyllic" roads for various travel/touring magazines. Throughout all this I have never given up my passion for finding peace through photographing and painting nature in the remotest rural locations I can find. These days I continue to run the RoadTrooper website and offer photography trips into the Highlands of Kerry and the Beara Peninsula from RoadTrooper's Rest, my BnB in Killarney.
