ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This Zen calligraphy is brushed on Xuan rice paper with deep black ground Sumi ink and is mounted on a matte silken scroll in light yellow color that gives it a gentle finish. The scroll has some minor spots on the scroll and the calligraphy, but the presence and spirit of the gate gate mantra calligraphy is as shown in the picture. The hanging scroll has a natural wooden roller at the bottom and is ready to be hung on a wall. I have brushed the Heart Sutra mantra in the cursive style of Japanese calligraphy. With a clear and lively brush stroke the calligraphy flows rhythmically and steadily toward its end, like a rolling wave that reaches the other shore. The Japanese rendering of the mantra is : 揭 帝 gya-tei 揭 帝 gya-tei 波 羅 揭 帝 ha-ra-gya-tei 波 羅 僧 揭 帝 ha-ra-sô-gya-tei 菩 提 薩 槃 訶 bo-ji so-wa-ka In English: Gone Gone, Gone Beyond, Gone Completely Beyond, Enlightenment At Last! Size of the scroll in cm: 203 x 56 x 0.2 cm. The width of the scroll without the rollers is 46 cm or 18 inches. The scroll will be shipped rolled in a traditionally-made silk box.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
