This piece was inspired by a reference photo I took of a wide bank of Cumulus clouds dramatically lit by afternoon sun shortly after a thunderstorm. I'm a huge fan of NC Wyeth's work, especially his illustrations for the original Treasure Island pressings. His clouds were always so dramatic, highlighted by thick, juicy brushstrokes and distinct patterns of values that made them jump out of the picture. I was definitely trying to capture that feel in this piece and was really happy with the outcome. The beach is a typical East Coast scene (Delaware to be exact) featuring an outcrop of large black rocks to balance out the composition. This piece is painted on heavy duty oil-primed Belgian linen that has been stretched over aluminum stretcher bars that can be hand-tightened (corner braces) should it ever become slack or lose due to time, temperature or humidity. The surface has been coated with Gamvar synthetic varnish, allowing the painting surface to be gently cleaned with a dry or damp rag if necessary. It is signed in the bottom right hand corner, wired to hang, and the sides are painted solid white. It can be hung unframed or framed.

I’m a self-taught artist and musician … have been as long as I can remember. Becoming a professional artist has been the joyful culmination of a lifelong search for peace and spiritual fulfillment. The meandering river that has been my professional trajectory has taken me from medical research, and biotech, and the Pharmaceutical industry as a biochemist…to being signed to an indie-label with my band…to owning a decorative painting business…and finally to fine art. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to explore what being an artist means to me and to be able to touch the lives of others through my work. Life is good. My favorite comment someone gave me at a show was: “You have great harmony with the subjects and colors that you choose . . .When I view your work, you can laugh, but it seems that there is sound with each piece, and it is almost as if I could hear music.”
