Hill End Charlie Painting

"Hill End - Charlie( was the family soldier)" was a title inspired by Australian Poet Les Murray and Australian landscape artist Luke Scriberras, whose magpie was drawn. Luke had a collection of birds and lizards recently deceased, that he would preserve for the purpose of drawing them, and suggested we include the still life with the landscape to broaden the range of the eye in drawing technique. As a girl, we had had a pet magpie, and there was a warm memory of the friendly, inquisitive nature of the bird as well as the beauty of the blue black plumage.
