About The Artwork

'Hingland', with its title taken from the Patois spoken by Caribbean immigrants, is a piece inspired by archive materials - the three figures all men who travelled on the Windrush boat to England from the Caribbean after the second world war. With the contrast of the backdrop of Notting Hill in white, the colourful figures show the area's famous brightness is just a reflection of those who lived there.
