What's the purpose of composers creating music? And what's the intention of poets writing poems? Painter Volker Mayr wishes his paintings can inspire people and create emotions. In addition, he wants to create images that capture the imaginations of viewers in their minds and hearts. Ever since childhood, he learned how to make emotions through colors and forms from his grandfather, the German artist Otto Gloßmann. And it has allowed him to let his impressions of nature express themselves in his paintings. Later, from roughly 1985, his non-figurative painting began to move towards abstract expressionism. Volker's works arise from all the senses and emotions; they are sensual, unpremeditated, and full of a playful love for enigmatic details. Multiple and vibrant relationships between colors and surface textures are created by layers that form transparent views, bold and expressive, emotional and spontaneous. His dreams tend to be colorful but non-figurative. Thus, Volker's paintings follow his dreams. For instance, his WAA International Gold Award-Winning work “Fiesta” was a significant step in his progress to dream-inspired paintings, showing surprising details and hints of hidden secrets. Also, his recent painting "Grace Under Pressure (Hemingway)" may express recent developments that have led him to the more creative use of color and form. Furthermore, he loves the challenge that an empty canvas brings to the artist: filling the void with a fantastic life that still retains its mysteriousness, making colors and forms move perpetually, and changing its rhythm, energy, and aura... With his paintings, Volker wants to trigger impulses that make the soul of the viewer vibrate.
