ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I am inspired to paint Hornbills because of their prehistoric look. According to American Museum of Natural History, birds are living dinosaurs ( “Birds: Living Dinosaurs”) and so I feel they are the closest we could ever get to seeing those long ago animals. These hornbills in my painting were chosen for their bright, beautiful colors as well as their unique “horns” on top or their bills. I hope to paint more of their different kinds in the future.

Despite the unfortunate pandemic, quarantine has given her time to finally take up a pencil or a paintbrush and make art. Her work is inspired by nature, particularly birds, animals and botanicals, as well as beautiful landscapes. She draws admiration from watercolor artists Karl Martens, Thomas W Schaller, Oliver Pyle, Sarah Stokes and Billy Showell. She also works with ink, graphite and colored pencil for her drawings. She admires the work of Moebius, Franklin Booth and Bernie Wrightson.
