About The Artwork
Inspired by the isolation of our recent lockdown of 100 days in Melbourne, this abstract painting focuses on the emotive experience of containment which is expressed in this work by the method of layering paint, the covering and revealing of colours and patterns. This painting is quite different to all my other works, as was the life experience of isolation. Being confined to a 5km radius parameter with no social interaction, the house and studio becomes your world and the effects of confinement can be seen in this work. I hope the viewer perceives the affect of restriction, as felt in my painting.

I love to experiment in my process of painting, exploring opposites like the spontaneous mark alongside the deliberate, dark colours contrasted with fluorescent pigments, masses of colour juxtaposed with fine ribbons or scribbles of paint. Compositions that offer no clear connection to reality or meaning, rather present explorations of painting compositions that may stimulate memories and create pathways to the imagination.
