About The Artwork

Exhibition History: per·spec·tives a dual artist show with Gabrielle Graves & Courtney Cotton May 22, 2020 through August 1st, 2020 Littleton Museum, Littleton, Colorado Howard's Dream references Howard Hughes, an American business magnate, investor, record-setting pilot, engineer, film director, and philanthropist, known during his lifetime as one of the most financially successful individuals in the world. He first became prominent as a film producer, and then as an influential figure in the aviation industry. Paper Airplanes is a conceptual painting series meant to bring awareness to mental wellness and emotional intelligence using the airplane as a metaphor for perspective. You can filter a situation through your lens of beliefs, reality depends on your perceptions and the filter you choose affects the world you see. Perceptions lead you to respond, react or surrender in a given situation and are something you control. Transformation & possibility are apparent as the paper airplane manifested from the folding of a single sheet of paper. I use this series as a vehicle to spread awareness about social & emotional learning as well as lifelong conscious awareness as good mental health is imperative to develop coping skills & resilience. I view this series as a vehicle that can help our society & especially our youth articulate and regulate emotions. I also encourage the viewer to attach their own meaning to the paper plane. On the color palette, dark blue represents creativity & intelligence that symbolizes loyalty, strength, wisdom & trust. Gold represents light, both inner light or self and outer light - universal. The white represents peace & being present. The variations these colors make represent contrast & the balancing act of our thoughts, feelings & emotions. “Fly high - it’s what you were meant to do! “ - Love Courtney for more day to day on my art life please follow @courtneycottonetal on Instagram © C.Cotton 2020
