About The Artwork

The figurative elements started from a place of self portrait. The mass number and empty forms also allows for any viewer to place themselves in the space. Their position on the panel references the experience of falling; But since they are frozen in time, they also exist in a state of flight. In this way they are frozen between the ecstasy of flight and the tragedy of death. below the figures are geometric forms in the bottom half of the painting, referencing the buildings and structures of New York. In this way the figures are both flying between the buildings and plummeting from them. The sharp lines and repeated brush strokes reference injury by referencing the scars that are on my body. At the same time the lines create an exciting form of energy that is both celebratory and tragic at the same time.
