I’m Australian. But what asian are you? I wonder if this is simply a trick question tied to a correct answer. Just because my looks appeared ‘unaustralian’ can I identify myself as a Korean, a culture that I’m not completely familiar with? Would I ever be acknowledged without question as an Australian? If I said I was Korean would they have a stereotype to classify me under? In this work, Kim questions her self-identity and seeks to reflect on whether one can simply categorize and label themselves under a culture that is unfamiliar. Would a label determined by appearance satisfy the other? Would there be certain stereotypes within this classification?

Using oils and acrylics her paintings are abstract figurative that employ a sense of humour as they respond to conversations and situations of the everyday.
