About The Artwork

"I meet a girl who sang the blues, she asked me for some happy news: I said 'Life is Hard'" Oil on panel 24 x 30 inches (60.96 x 76.2 cm) Hand painted by artist J. William Hill This is a painting from my Magic Realism Series. It was inspired by the pregnant model in one of the painting sessions I attend. The trompe l'oeil frame is a statement on the life cycle: we a born into this world and live in a life full of chaos as we develop into beautiful humans represented by the raspberry flower, then in a world of chaos and confusion we grow old and finally die. The raspberries are a midwife's means of easing childbirth, so they represent an easy birth. The shepherdess has found her stray sheep by the outcrop and is leading them home. Yet on of her babies is terrified of the world and its dangers she protects him from so he screams in terror. The wolves on the ledge are metaphors for these dangers. Much of my art is like this and tells a narrative story. You can follow me at: http://www.facebook.com/artwork.jwilliamhill http://www.instagram.com/jwilliamhill2018
