ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting belongs to the collection of "Inner Landscapes". It is a continuation of my style in which I use a single brush stroke multiplied rhythmically, horizontally, or vertically in order to obtain vibration. A single touch is irrelevant but thousands of them are building energy. My artwork is meticulous, but it does not refer to patience. It is meditative, contemplative, like a rosary, like a mantra seeking connections between the inner and outer world. Two quotes drive me in this work: "We don't own the land, the land owns us." "You are not a drop in the ocean, you're the entire ocean.

I was born in Poland. I graduated from the University of Arts in Poznań, receiving a master's degree. In 1998 I came to the USA and since then I have lived in Philadelphia. Parallel to art, I have always been interested in psychology. At some point, these two fields met in the psychological space of the painting. What drives me the most is an exploration of the human condition based on social observation but also through personal experiences. Lack of communication, silence, and hidden events have an impact on the creation of the fabric of life. There are also other threads woven into my work like my fascination with the Japanese tradition of mending which has led to the use of other media and techniques, such as crocheted pieces, fabrics, and yarns that I stitch by hand to create collages. The process of repairing is an essential act in the psychological space of creation. Since I was a child I was so sensitive to color, which plays the main role in my paintings. Color is the energy and each painting has to match my inner vibration, state of mind, and emotions. I came to use single touches of the brush through the process of simplifying complicated symbols. Somewhat contradictory, but what I'm looking for is complicated simplicity.
