This work is part of the solo exhibition INTERWOVEN. For Daniela Todorova this exhibition is deeply emotional, interweaving past and present, memories and dreams, symbolism and abstractionism, woven into fragments and structures. The works are constructed from Japanese and Korean handmade papers weaving hemp and linen fibres, fragments of old book editions, ethereal vegetal elements and small scrolls of revelations. The works bear delicate reliefs characteristic of the artist’s style. The suggestion of the natural colours of the paper highlights her affinity for natural fibres enriched with symbolic reliefs. Here is what Daniela Todorova shares about this project: “The main focus of all my work, regardless of the medium, is the spiritual messages woven into symbolic works. Over the years I have worked in various media – printmaking, cartooning, painting, stained glass and icon painting. Almost 20 years ago, I discovered the unsuspected possibilities of creating large format works of lightness and vitality through the language of this ancient material, paper. It remains to this day my favourite medium, to which I have dedicated years not only for myself but for many artists from around the world. My belief in the unity and encounter of destiny and reality is at the heart of this project, which bears the symbolic name INTERWOVEN. The messages I send are part of my sense of symbolism and purity in the universe, which is also my credo. The whiteness and natural shades from cream to golden brown, express my adoration for the true things in life and our Earth, which has hidden ancient knowledge through symbols and signs covered by the dust of Time. INTERWOVEN is a revelation. INTERWOVEN is the beginning of a long story about the living memory that surrounds us and carries information from ancient times.”
