About The Artwork
"INVICTUS" is a Latin Language word meaning "unconquered and unsubdued" This work is a visual Homage to the Poet William Ernest Henley, who wrote his piece "Invictus" in 1875. In today’s tumultuous world poetry has a valuable place, a place for recording sentiments and feelings, events and reactions. For centuries, leaders throughout the world have turned to poetry for solace and for a call to action. Nelson Mandela, the anti-apartheid leader who was jailed 27 years for his activism and in 1994 became President of South Africa, regularly recited the poem Invictus during his imprisonment. . Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Original Modernist / Minimalist Acrylic Painting on Italian Polyester / Cotton Canvas over 3/16 inches MDF Hard Board Panel. This piece is created using Metallic Acrylic paints, and shimmers at various wavelengths of light as you view it from different angles.
