My name is Rajesh Barman.I am a visual art practitioner from North Bengal.Born 30 th june 1995 in Cooch behar district.I have completed my BFA from The indian college of arts and draftsmanship in 2020.Then i have completed my MFA from kala bhavana Santiniketan, Visva Bharati University in 2022. I am primarily intrigued by the transient nature of being, and much of my work draws inspiration from my immediate surroundings, focusing on the vulnerable human condition. I have interest in every disciplines of art and culture. I consider myself as a multidisciplinary art practitioner. I am deeply attracted to the rural surroundings of North Bengal wherein I grew up and had my initial schooling; of late I have come to Kolkata for my higher studies. My paintings come out of my continual search for a concept which would act as a bridge between my rural origin and my migrated urban existence. Thus I have reached to the tin sheets and different flat shimmering corrugated surfaces and eventually found these objects as my appropriate images to paint. One can find these sheets almost everywhere irrespective of the localities. These sheets are widely used on the rooftop as well as walls in our village houses. And I can find these a lot here in Kolkata. I am particularly attracted towards the materials with a high reflectance, shiny and illuminating for my image reference because I felt that the reflective characters of these materials might introduce a drama in my work, a drama of shallow space, a restricted exaltation, representing the psyche of a bewildered rural soul who has been flabbergasted by his own urban existence. My paintings are very close-up view of metallic corrugated sheets. While creating these paintings, I have always tried to be loyal to the retinal reality of the objects. But however, most interestingly, the light and shade together with the glittering part of the metal surface cumulatively have created some forms and shapes in such a manner that apparently appears to be an unknown visual for us. It is due to the fact that we don't observe the elements so close. In this way, I derive and arrive to an unknown image from a commonly known and familiar object, Even in this kind of overtly naturalistic painting, the composition simulates the appearance of the non-representational genre of painting. This ambiguous area of the creation of abstraction by following naturalism is an interesting journey for me as an artist and I am enjoying it thoroughly.
