About The Artwork
This painting is an experimental project by the artist Chris Barklem, a professional artist based in Barcelona, Spain. It is named "Igneus" as the artist took his inspiration from the turmoil of global warming and was painted during the Australian forest fires of late 2019. This project was the precursor to the Igneus series based on the same theme and exhibited in Madrid on December 2019. The artist used several layers of high-quality gesso (to give flexibility), aggregate (fine sands for Mediterranean beaches), several layers and surface techniques to produce deep contours. Several painting techniques were used in layers, to give profound depth and surreal expressionism.
