In Italy, a new government announces its intention to build the bridge over the Strait of Messina to permanently connect Sicily to mainland Italy. Unfortunately, in the last 25 years the construction of this phantom bridge has been the fairy tale of politicians and entrepreneurs that has led to a stalemate. Each new government announces the construction of the bridge. In the painting you can see a panorama of the work area. Nothing. And I say "thank goodness" because it would deface one of the most beautiful and suggestive places on our planet as well as destroy, on land and sea, a rich natural heritage. On the Strait of Messina, we recall, a rare species of honey buzzard nests. Our duty, even with art, is to defend and make known. Original Abstract Watercolor on fine art paper Arches 300 g /m2, fine grain, cold pressed, 100% cotton. Format 50×40 cm. Extra fine watercolors Daniel Smith and Schmincke Horadam. Ink . Martin’s. I was born in Sicily. The south and the Mediterranean are the roots of my soul and my feelings. I come from classical studies. I could have been a doctor if I had not met the Theater. And in the theater my infinite journey into Art begins. I am an actor and a director, a playwright and a writer. And I love using the verb to be, because I have never done in my life what I am not. I love playing with lights, a game that I have fed by landing on photography until being an honorable mention at the IPA in Los Angeles in 2017. And in the game of lights, I found painting, a language that allows me countless escapes, each of which brings me back to myself. "I am what I don't know." So says a character in one of my stories. And it's a phrase that comes from the most intimate part of myself, because my whole life, up to this point, has been a continuous search, a continuous pushing beyond my own limits. Art has certainly been the means, and I'm not referring to the technique of expression; on the contrary, it has always been secondary to exploring the deepest folds of my soul. Painting is for me like a catharsis that comes to life in the shapes and colors spread on the canvas; of shadow and light. Shadows that I try to illuminate and lights that I would like to fade. It's the need for a space of quiet; but it continually escapes. And I realize that my painting could be summed up in a single phrase: what I don't know. - Wonder Korner, Palazzo D’Amico, Milazzo 2024 - Session 6, Galeria Azur Berlin, Berlin 2024 - Il Sogno di Demetra, Galleria San Babila, Milan, 2024 - Viaggio verso l’introspezione, MO.C.A.
