Look at this picture, Guess... what is the focal point in this painting? Is it the trees? Or the magenta-tinged, broken rocks in the foreground? Or the white pond near the horizon? Sometimes, it is very difficult to tell, especially when the entire scene is lush and rich with color. This scene is like that. Through my imagination, I painted this scene to capture the feeling of spring. Spring is colorful, so this scene naturally reflects that with lush greens, purples, magentas, earthy browns, oranges, and yellows. When everything is colorful, it becomes very difficult to choose a focal point. However, one element will surely dominate to some extent. Which one is dominating? ... Again, it’s open to personal interpretation and depends on your perspective. To me, the rock-strewn, earth-magenta-colored foreground area is the focal area. The deeply cut and broken parts of the rocky earth grab more attention. The pops of orange, yellow, and purple give a feeling of tiny, dusty rock pieces of the terrain, which seem eye-catching. I feel that's the focal area in the painting, not a particular focal point. After that, it's the trees... those two trees standing tall as if reaching toward the skies, overlapped by lush green foliage. The debris-laden forest floor, with twigs, leaves, fallen branches, rocks, and other organic material popping through the foliage, evokes curiosity. In the same moment, our eyes are drawn to the clear white pond surrounded by diffused purples, greens, and the waterbank. There, we sense a suggestive upward slope of the rock-strewn, debris-laden forest bank. What’s significant about this painting is that, with slight variations, all areas grab our attention yet avoid conflict between them. That's the interesting element in this painting. Every painting needs some interesting element to be appealing. An artist's mind should continuously explore evolution in a number of ways. This is one of those kinds.

Artist Statement: After decades of experience, I've come to realize that capturing the essence of the scene holds greater importance to me than merely depicting it. As an artist, I believe that one must focus on either the depiction or the essence, as only one can truly dominate in art or in life. When painting forest scenes from imagination, I follow this approach. Each painting in the " Imaginative Forest Paintings Series" is a journey, an exploration of the dualities inherent in nature and within ourselves. The juxtaposition of realism and abstraction creates a space where the viewer can navigate between the known and the unknown, the seen and the felt. It is my hope that these works inspire a deeper connection to the natural world and a recognition of the beauty and complexity that lies within and around us. Through this series, I invite you to step into the forest, not just as an observer, but as a participant in its boundless and ever-changing narrative. Let these paintings be a reminder of the profound interconnection we share with nature and the expressive potential that resides in embracing both its tangible reality and its abstract essence. In terms of technique,.. I primarily rely on large painting knives to create my work. These tools yield captivating shapes, textures, and even unexpected 'accidents.' These serendipitous occurrences often serve as the lifeblood of my paintings, infusing them with spontaneity and vitality.
