About The Artwork
Oil and liquid gold leaf on a panel. The panel is on a board (edge). When I first painted the four elements of life: fire, earth, water, and air, I felt I shared the Romantic need for foundations and certitudes, above inquietude, even recalling ancient views. Then echoes from the sciences brought to knowledge of fragmentation of matter to the smallest conceivable particles. This coincided with fragmentation of certitudes and new depths of inquietude. Hence the need was felt for new forms of certitude, new shapes of harmony and beauty - at times even through reminiscence of ancient roots.
