ABOUT THE ARTWORK

On a cold day at night, watercolor, gouache and ink with very little graphite. This painting consists of many thin layers of blue, ultramarine, grey, black watercolors. I love the monochrome reduced and quiet atmosphere of this painting, like in dreams. It shows mainly blue and dark colors. These are the colors of north, night and winter, what can also be seen as a metaphor for us facing colder and blue (political) times at the moment, but still there is beauty in everything, even in darkness. On Paper size 25x25cm (9,8´´,whole sheet of paper unframed, see photo), the part shown here is 19x19 cm (7,5x7,5´´). The painting comes unframed. Collectors should choose their own matte and frame. The inner frame of the matte should always be square, the outer frame can be different or bigger. Black, white, golden and natural frames would also look very good. If you need any advice on it or want it ready to hang, please feel free to contact me and we can work that out together. Signed on the back with certificate of authenticity. Please note that colors may vary slightly on different monitors. Shipping costs cover professional packing materials, insurance, transport etc but not customs/duties to overseas. Based in Germany, Gesa Reuter’s artistic practice started in 1996. She has since studied the techniques of the old Dutch masters, layering selfmade gouache, egg tempera and sometimes oil to build her paintings with different layers of paint from thin to thick. Recently she has discovered the power of watercolours and ink in her work, enjoying the way the watery materials leave marks and traces to describe her inner feelings and emotions. Rather than painting an accurate visual representation of a landscape, she prefers to use the power of memory; her artworks are an expression of her feelings and emotions in the moment of experiencing the landscape." (Inside Artists, Issue 9, Summer 2017) So far, her works have been exhibited in Germany and Europe, mainly sold to private collectors in Germany, U.S.A., UK, NL, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, to architects, small companies, private medical and psychological practices. In public collection of Amateras Foundation, Bulgaria, NHS England and Kunsthaus Stove, Germany.
