About The Artwork

In Search of God is an acrylic on canvas abstract depiction. It focuses on humans’ endless search for the ultimate Divine force in life and afterlife because of the belief in Almighty God and Heavenly abode for ‘Good people’. But, the painting points out that God in whatever name is the same in different religions, whether in Yoruba/African traditional religion, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism among others. Thus, God is real. Heaven and Karma are some of the psycho-religious means of drawing humans away from the devil and evil. In the work, the human forms are drawn toward the brightly whitish structure in the near distance. They are pulled by Divine forces towards Olodumare (Almighty God) as symbolized by the icons of different religions mentioned above, depicted in the window spaces of the suggested building as a metaphor of Yahweh’s (God’s) essence in different faiths. A concentric symbol of continuity, a never ending world, was depicted at the bottom part of the foreground revealing that the forms are all in the search for God, whether alive or dead. The reddish brown, red violet, pink, yellow and ochre hues converging into the whitish glow around the benevolent structure is a symbol of living souls (bloods of lives) who have given everything in search of God despite the colour of their skin, race or creed.
