ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"Forgotten Tales From a Place I Never Knew" is a collection of works on paper inspired by heirloom objects made of jade and Chinese antiquities displayed in museums of history and art. I’ve always been drawn to these items, but there will always be a glass wall between my hands and those objects. I will never know their stories without reading an interpretive text. I feel tied to them, but they could never be my own.

Christina Kwan is an Atlanta-based artist known for an array of abstract and floral works on paper as well as large scale murals. After receiving her BFA in Drawing at University of Florida, she moved to Atlanta to pursue a creative career. The work she creates now is an ongoing exploration of her Asian-American identity and the societal condition of feeling incomplete, existing in-between. Calligraphic brush strokes obliquely refer to her ancestral heritage, acting as a yearning for permanence in a search for wholeness.
