Contrary to what is usually thought, blindness is not condemned only to darkness. A blind artist, like Casado, paints through a different opening: the one that opens the dwelling of memory, a cave full of half-illuminated images and that only someone with a rich inner world could light in their splendor. "... it seems that on the horizon, the sky and the earth meet. But it is not true, where they really come together is in our hearts…" is the quote that was printed in the memory of Ataulfo for more than 40 years and that inspires the series entitled "In your heart they meet." This praise to the light of the interior, consists in a series of paintings of sunsets that, among other things, stand out for their millimetric degradation of color, composed with diffuse horizons that unite the palettes of the sky and the earth. Finishes that require, also, a great knowledge of the color and the blurring technique. For Casado, the sunset is not a simple poetic image. It’s the time of day when the earth loses its color and is tinged with that warm crepuscular light, which involves everything with its extensive mantle. However, it’s the moment where heaven and earth meet; the divine and the earthly; light and darkness. Moment captured in this series and where Ataulfo manages to dye from his inner world the absence of light that become the empty canvases. Technique: Collage and acrylic

Ataúlfo Casado, whose artistic name is a simple and affectionate Ata, was born in Madrid on January 14, 1948. At the young age of 14 he achieved one of his greatest professional achievements, becoming an accredited copyist of the Museo Nacional del Prado (Madrid). At age of 17 he entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, the last year of the Academy as a school of education. The following year, in June, he had to take the entrance exam to the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid; 200 students attended the exam, of which only 19 were approved, including Casado. As a result of a disease that left him in absolute blindness, he abandoned painting for years, returning with strength in 2007. His work evolved over time in a formidable way, approaching more and more the abstract style that, to date, he dominates his creations. His style, in the words of Casado himself, can be defined as a mixture of Fauvism, expressionism, figuration and abstraction.
