About The Artwork

This painting came from a dream that I always have where I see many trees in a state of weightlessness including myself, for that reason also perform this artistic work in black and white because I never remember the dream was full color, the style of this work could be abstract with a surrealist tendency.

Lorenzo Muriedas was born in Havana, Cuba, January 1, 1959. Since he was a child, Lorenzo showed a deep inclination toward the arts, participating in various painting competitions throughout his primary, secondary, and pre-university years. He studied and graduated as a chemical engineer at the "José Antonio Echeverría" Polytechnic Institute in Havana, Cuba in 1987 and worked as a Specialist in cinematographic image quality control in the film industry until 1994. Lorenzo was a great admirer of masters of the art contemporary as Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and others. All his artistic work is creative and spontaneous. He took various courses between 1988 and 1990 at the National School of Art (ENA), as well as conferences and seminars at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) ... an artistic institution that would have loved to graduate as a first-rate artist. He belonged to the "Asociación Hermanos Saíz", participating in exhibitions and art sales of said association from 1984 to 1993. He also worked as an art assistant in various video art productions by contemporary Cuban artists: Ever Fonseca, Zaida del Río, Flora Fong, Nelson Dominguez, and Roberto Fabelo. At the end of the 90s, he had a powerful inclination for poetry. Poetry and painting had a close relationship, so he decided to dedicate time to poetry. He currently has more than 1500 poems between sonnets and free poetry with themes of social meaning and love. Lorenzo participated in various solo and group exhibitions in Cuba and United State. At the end of the 90s, he began to write poems due to his very strong inclination towards poetry, for him, poetry and painting have a close relationship, so he decided to dedicate some time to poetry. Currently, he has more than 1,200 finished poems, including sonnets and poems with themes of free love, freedom, and social sense with some touches on politics. In 2011 he managed to publish one of his poems entitled "Blue" in a book published in the United States with the English name "Star in Our Hearts: Revelation" by the World Poetry Movement published in the United States Library of Congress and is the only Spanish poem from the book. In 2012 he won first place in the poetry contest "Great American Poets" held in Washington, D.C., with the sonnet titled "Anhelo" Books in Spanish published in the United States.
