It got me thinking about the importance of insects, particular in relation to the current concerns about the destruction of our environment. There are 1.4 billion insects per person on this planet and we need almost every one of them. Insects are crucial components of many ecosystems, where they perform many important functions. They pollinate crops we rely on as food and aerate the soil, keep pest insects in check, Many insects, especially beetles, are scavengers, feeding on dead animals, dung and fallen trees, thereby recycling nutrients back into the soil. Also more than a quarter of the world's population eats insects. Today, many species are faced with extinction, due to changing climate change, alteration of their habitat and widespread use of chemicals.

AUSTRALIAN ARTIST I am an Australian artist working in Adelaide, South Australia. I paint mostly in oil, but occasionally use acrylic paints. Landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, flower paintings and abstract paintings are included in my repertoire of work. INSPIRATION FOR MY ART As an Australian artist, my inspiration comes from whatever is around me at a particular time. As an example, following a recent trip to the mid north of South Australia, I produced a series of landscape paintings, which include the beautiful Eucalyptus trees and flowers from local gardens. HISTORY My original study was textile design and Adelaide's School of Art and Craft. I then worked for 20 years in various forms of art and fashion. But, in 1997 I followed my other passion, natural health. Since arriving back in Adelaide from Sydney in 1999 I have worked full time as a Naturopath. However, in recent years I have devoted much more time to my painting. Moving full circle, as a practicing Australian artist. This includes participating in exhibitions. Also fulfilling my love of learning by continuing to study and improve my art practice, wherever and whenever I can. Over this period I have attended many and varied art courses and workshops in this time including Peter Bok at Bapea Art School, Liana Vargas Cat Leonard, and Krystina at Splashout Studio, Chelsea Lehman, Trena Everuss and Nona Burden at Adelaide Central School, John Lacey, Ruby Chew, Sophie Hann, Gerhard Ritter, and Deborah Trusson. WHERE ELSE TO FIND ME I regularly post to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
