About The Artwork

I´m not rioting, but the injustice is too deep and widespread for inaction. That is why I painted this painting combining Emmett Till, George Floyd and the "We Protect And Serve" shield. The gap between them shows that hardly anything has changed. The lynchings are still here, only the methods have changed. We are faced with institutional racism. It is time to change our values and our behavior. It is time to change what we invest in for our future. Black lives matter and racism must go. Period. I have been painting portraits for years. My portraits evolved into "Icons of Icons" when I added gold leaf to the background, loosely following the tradition of religious icons. When I swapped the oil painting for the background and the gold leaf for the actual portrait I developed what I call my "Gold Portraits”. The thing is that I always enjoyed the paintings in their early phases, when they were still unfinished and relaxed. I decided to drop out everything unnecessary, like the gold and most colors. Then I paint my sketched lines meticulously through several times with a very small brush. This enables me to preserve the undulating sketchy lines in a finished painting. In addition to oil paints I use an ultra black acrylic paint, one that absorbs 99% of visible light, to emphasize the contrast and highlight selected colors These graphic paintings I call my “Bold Portraits”. I hope you like them! Synopsis: I paint iconic people and topics that have had an impact on me or our society. I paint oil on canvas, but in my BOLD portraits I also use a ultrablack matt acrylic paint. The painting is signed on the back and has my “e” symbol on the front. The painting continues around the sides, so it is ready to hang unframed.

"When the world becomes a massive mess with nobody at the helm, it's time for artists to make their mark." - Joni Mitchell I paint to illuminate injustice and expose the abuse of power. My goal is to encourage and inspire people to take action for positive change. We all have a voice, my art is mine. After an award winning international career in design I switched my creative passion entirely into art - my deepest lifelong passion. Said of Antti Eklund: "Francis Bacon coming on Andy Warhol with Keith Haring watching, a touch of Gerhard Richter and a splash of Martial Raysse, a squeeze of Yan Pei-Ming, a drop of Marlene Dumas. But, no - genuine Antti Eklund."
