“Falling Up” is a series of paintings created in response to the Yorkshire landscape. Jagger revisited the area where she grew up to explore the landscape from a new perspective. Her sketches and paintings focus on the flow of water through the landscape, metaphorically water transforming from cloud to rain, then river source to sea, representing one cycle of life. The elements at play suggest the force of nature and inevitable passing of time, the man-made architecture and objects on the landscape provide signposts to locations, time and a human scale. "Into the Storm" is inspired by the Yorkshire Dales, specifically the walk home down Gordale Scar, past Janet's Foss (a beautiful natural waterfall), heading into the storm to get home. Jagger exposes the viewer to the elements, to reach the shelter of the barn in the distance they must walk into the storm. “I wanted to create a sort of "experiential escapism", while retaining some figurative aspect of the landscape. It is my intention that the figurative element should either act as a signpost to the location or as a metaphor. In this painting the barn is both a signpost to the literal location and a metaphor for shelter and refuge which can be reached through perseverance.”
