Into the Wild Olive Painting

My breakthrough as an independent artist came with my introduction to the work of Dale Chihuly, which emphasizes spontaneity, freedom of expression, and vibrant color combined with provocative forms. The influence of the abstract expressionists - Pollock, Rothko, de Kooning, et al - cannot be overstated. The intention behind my painting is to provide a powerful visual experience to the viewer, which cannot be denied. Think of the painting as a powerful magnet and the viewer as solid steel. "Liked" or "disliked" is not the issue. Does the painting continue to draw the viewer back for progressively deeper viewings? When this occurs the painting is a success. The captive viewer will inevitably ask, "What was the inspiration behind the painting?" The very act of painting provides the inspiration. The painter first looks at a blank canvas with no other feeling than to produce a painting. With each brushstroke or dab of paint the imagination begins to loosen like muscles during exercise. With imagination comes enthusiasm, until they unite in a consort of creativity, and a beautiful painting results.
