ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece is a self portrait, capturing the dramatic lighting from the window to highlight and cast shadows over parts of my face while in isolation. This is only the 2nd self portrait I have done, and was done to capture how I've developed as an artist over the past 10 years and the difference in technical approach. I've signed the piece using my fingerprint with oil paint in the bottom right hand corner. Oil on Aluminium panel, unframed with no hanging hardware included. PLEASE NOTE: This artwork is being included within The Other Art Fair exhibition from 1-4th July, therefore shipping will take minimum 6 weeks. If sold, artwork will still be included within the exhibition, however will be marked as Sold and shipped after the exhibition ends. Thank you.

Born 1992, based in the UK. I am a contemporary realism artist working primarily with oils and digital drawings. Having completed my formal architectural education in 2018, I have since been able to devote my spare time to pursuing my passion for painting and creating art. While trained as an Architect, throughout my life I have continued to paint and draw. I use techniques learnt over 10+ years practise and some training in 19th century representational drawing and painting. In 2020 my work “The Fall” was awarded Honourable Mention within the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize. My painting “Oblivion” is part of The Peregrine Collection, among the most diverse collections of contemporary cultural work assembled for launch into space, and is believed to be the first ever project to place the work of women artists on the Moon. Headed by payload coordinator and curator Dr. Samuel Peralta, launching December 2021. ARTIST STATEMENT The current theme of my work is to capture beauty in moments of solitude. The works comprise of a figure, my beloved cousin - a talented fire performer, submerged in a body of coloured water. For me, bathing is a method to soothe ourselves, and when we submerge ourselves underneath, for those few moments we are simply a body suspended beneath the water, with just the sound of our breathing to accompany us. I think there is a beauty within that fleeting moment and my recent works are a way of trying to capture that feeling. I create the work starting with a photo shoot to capture the desired reference images. After testing and establishing the composition, I prepare a base drawing/painting and apply multiple layers of glazes, scumbling and detailed brushwork. I always intend to create images that are beautiful, not just aesthetically, yet in the care and attention paid to the creation of the works at each stage of the process.
