About The Artwork

As an artist and art history professor, I have long admired the Romantic artist JMW Turner. JMW Turner's Slave Ship with its boiling water and death-defying waves is just awe-inspiring to me. The way he makes a yellow sun appear angry and how the ship is tossing in the wind is one of my favorite moments in art history. I recently was awarded a grant to give a lecture about the history of seascape painting. I revisited Turner's masterful work and was so inspired by it once again! that I incorporated his palette and brushstroke into my newest seascape painting. Given his influence on my painting, in all fairness, I had to title the painting after Turner himself.
