For Caffeine Commuters! Fall has always been a favorite season for me. From gathering candy on Halloween as a kid, to gathering around a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving, there was always a feeling of something special just around the corner. I always looked forward to some special things that came with Fall, like pumpkin pie, apple cider and cozy sweaters. Reminders of Fall are few here in South Florida. There are no beautiful colored leaves on the trees. No snap in the air. But there is Pumpkin Spice Latte at the coffee shop! Funny how some things bring back memories, - tastes of certain flavors, a favorite song, the comfort of warm, soft knit clothes. Why are our senses so tied up in lasting memories? Or why does the smell of fresh perked coffee get you out of bed when you'd rather stay in and grab another 40 winks? Oh! Coffee! I cannot function without that! "Joe On the Go" is a little something I did to celebrate what I believe is America's favorite wake up beverage. And from what I remember from my work-a-day days, many commuters take their coffee along with them for the ride in to work. Careful not to spill! I stopped in for a Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew the other day. Hmmm, I think I have a new favorite memory brewing! Think of me if you find yourself standing in line at Starbucks!

Angles and lines, repeating patterns, and some circles - for relief. Angles and lines represent boundaries. I like boundaries, they make me feel safe, as do repeating patterns. They’re comforting because they’re familiar and expected. I’m an introvert and I find it stressful to cope with turmoil. So, I paint. I begin by drawing little sketched patterns on paper, dividing space. It frees me of distractions so I can focus my thoughts. I start to see things happen within the drawing and an idea for a painting begins to emerge. I transfer the drawing to the canvas. Alkyd (oil) is my medium of choice, but I also paint in acrylics. As I paint, I feel myself move into the painting. I work until I find what I’m looking for -- balance, harmony in smooth color fields, edgy transitions between the angles and lines, repeating patterns, and then some circles - for relief.
