About The Artwork
I am interested in the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Codices because I never trusted the church or politicians to edit what people read. These old manuscripts paint a different picture of "the kingdom of heaven" from the one I was taught as a kid. Now that I have studied more religions and see how many of them are related I can't help but see John the Baptist as a enlightened guru that lived 24/7 in "the way" as the old texts put it. The bee and honey reference comes from the notion that he had tasted the nectar of immortality and was already there before Harrod had his head. This one came out of the blue. I don't usually paint religious stuff but I do think a lot about John the Baptist. I wonder what he would think of the white washed appropriated version of his religion that I was raised with?
