I am constrained to just 2000 words here, which isn’t nearly enough to delve into the unique techniques and methods that set my work apart from other artists. To truly understand my art and the innovative approaches I employ, I invite you to explore a lot of information available about me and my work online. You can find detailed explanations, insights, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into my creative process. Additionally, you can watch numerous videos of me in action, creating some of my paintings, by searching my name on YouTube. This will give you a comprehensive view of my artistic journey and the distinct elements that define my creations. My most frequently asked question is: Is it original? -Yes. I paint directly onto various types of blank photographic papers and canvas using water, color inks, and unconventional household chemicals and liquids of different viscosities. The movement of the liquids and their densities creates physical reactions that are instantly registered by the inks on the paper. The result is paintings characterized by sharpness, tonal gradation, depth of field, and flowing movement, resembling the work of nature. Each painting is one-of-a-kind, I do not use cameras, digital printers, or any other form of reproduction.

Born in Havana, Cuba in 1961, José Tonito Rodriguez came to the United States in 1978 and currently lives in Florida. His early career as a photographer significantly shaped his current work. Using photographic paper, color inks, and an array of unconventional techniques, his images have a uniquely organic, exploratory feel. What he calls “accidents” splatter and sprawl across the paper, revealing themselves to him as he follows and urges them forward into other-worldly forms. Influenced by the forces of nature, he imagines the creation of rivers and lakes as he works, sometimes visualizing how clouds or even micro-organisms might behave under a microscope. The artist’s experiments tease the viewer into discovering “hidden, magical worlds” within our own imaginations.
