Part of the Aqueous Isolations series: A Collaboration with Renee Berthelette.
Please note these are 3 separate paintings- sold as a triptych.

"Kinetic Benthos" is inspired by the movement and energy of the life of the ocean floor: from the depths of oceanic trenches, across abyssal plains, following the rise and slopes of the continental shelves, until it’s rush to meet us. It is an exploration of being plunged into chaos, while facing our own emotional abyss, strewn with blind spots, predators, and swirling eddies of uncertainty. A introspective dive through these depths can sometimes lead to frantic moments, but ultimately reveal wondrous beauty and tranquility.

Claire Townsend is a multimedia artist based in New York City, where she makes work inspired by a profound sense of awe for the ocean, making beautiful seacapes and landscapes devoid of life, often using recyled plastic sequins and beads from her work as a costume designer, drawing attention to microplastics and how they have impacted and will continue to disrupt nature.
