Kingfisher Painting

There are between about 90 different species of kingfisher in the world and they can be found on every continent except Antarctica. Not all kingfishers eat fish, some eat insects, frogs, lizards, snakes and even small mammals. They have excellent vision and can see into the water. Although they can only fly straight and at one speed, they can also hover. They court by the male presenting a prey to a female and if she doesn’t except it, he simply eats the offering himself. The females can lay up to 10 eggs at a time and each chick eat up to 18 fish a day, meaning that the adults may need to catch more than 150 fish a day to feed their young. They don’t have a song, but use various other sounds, including squeaking, screeching, calling and whistling. Their beaks are so aerodynamically efficient, that many Japanese bullet trains are modelled to its shape. Psalm 50:11 - I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine.
