Close up.
People in my life inspired this work. The way in which people are individualistic and adaptable to their environment, I find fascinating. Part of a larger series of different species of giant animals adapting to different rooms, I use this as a metaphor for the different characters I meet in my everyday life. Using a different room of a house in each painting, I am slowly building my dream home with a family of animals! Humanity, along with its encounter with the beauty of nature provided the imagery for this work. For this series I needed to include a bedroom and seeing how koalas sleep 18 to 22 hours a day, the most of all the species on the planet, the koala turned out to be the perfect subject. Taking other elements from the Australian bushland, I have decorated her habitat with eucalyptus leaves along with several other characters (some hidden, others not) known to populate the area. Furthermore as koalas are largely nocturnal, I decided to make this painting take place in the night time, full moon in effect and complete with mushroom nightlight. I paint what moves me, resiliency of the living spirit. These paintings are about how we just can't help but be our best when we our best selves. Each painting comes with painted sides and requires no frame. Complete with hangy wire also it is ready for your enjoyment!

Artist Statement: Art is an exploration of my everyday experience as a human being. I enjoy developing connections with others, connections of a particular kind.
