‘Labyrinth Shade’ continues the theme of David Bennison’s Labyrinth Series paintings where mischievous elephants chasing Chimpanzees are seemingly and imminently about to burst onto the canvas from the original painting that inspired this image; ‘Labyrinth Chase’. ‘Labyrinth Shade’ continues a narrative from one particular viewpoint of ‘Labyrinth Chase’ and offers the viewer a peak into what lurks beyond the canvas from this original painting. Basking in shade away from a hot sun, Labyrinth Shade offers rest bite from the relentless heat and gives a cool place to retreat. On the floor lies and purple book, a clue that ties in Labyrinth Chase but also suggests a metaphorical connection to good health through its colour purple. This ready to hang original artwork has been painted on 100% artist cotton natural canvas and hand-stretched by the artist over 38mm gallery stretcher bars. It has been varnished and personally signed and supplied with a certificate of authenticity from Saatchi Art and David Bennison.

Graduating from the Cambridge school of Art in Illustration, David Bennison is a full-time British artist living and working in Cambridge, UK. His concepts have remained firmly grounded in the exploration of curvilinear perspective which complements his current work that has its origins in visual dream interpretation. David’s fine art painting explores ethereal and figurative subject matter that is interweaved with multiple viewpoints to produce intangible landscapes that continue a narrative from one canvas to the next. Repeated metaphors suggestive of sexuality, birth and death, seemingly make subtle relationships with confusing, existential pathways of everyday life. Obvious inspirations to David’s work have included the architectural drawings of Piranesi, graphic artist M.C. Escher, Illustrator Paul Hess and local artist and printmaker Glynn Thomas.
